The UK is bracing for a weekend of weather chaos as Storm Dave officially made landfall this evening, bringing a treacherous mix of heavy snow, blizzards, and “danger to life” wind gusts.
As millions of families begin their Easter holiday travels, the Met Office has upgraded weather alerts, warning that flying debris and massive coastal waves could pose a significant risk to the public.

Amber Warning: 80mph Winds to Strike Tonight
An Amber weather warning for wind has been issued for parts of Northern England, North Wales, and Scotland. Forecasters expect the storm to hit hardest between 7 PM tonight and 3 AM Sunday.
Meteorologists warn that gusts could reach 70-80mph, particularly in exposed coastal regions. Residents in Lancashire, North Yorkshire, and Northumberland are urged to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel.
Scottish Highlands Braced for 30cm of Snow
While the south remains breezy, the north is turning white. A Yellow warning for snow is in place for the Scottish Highlands. Up to 30cm (12 inches) of snow is expected on higher ground, with 5-10cm possible even at lower levels.
“Strong wind blizzards and drifting snow will be an additional hazard for anyone on the roads,” a Met Office spokesperson confirmed.
Easter Travel Disruption
The timing of Storm Dave couldn’t be worse for the “Easter Getaway.”
- Roads: The RAC has warned drivers to expect delays on major motorways like the M5 and M6.
- Rail & Air: Several rail operators in Scotland and Northern England have announced reduced speeds, and flight cancellations are expected at major hubs due to high crosswinds.
- Ferries: Cross-channel and Irish Sea ferry services are facing delays due to “dangerous coastal conditions.”
What’s Next? A Warm Turn Ahead
There is a silver lining for those shivering through the storm. Once Storm Dave clears into the North Sea on Sunday, a plume of warm air from Europe is expected to move in. By Wednesday, April 8, temperatures in London and Southeast England could soar to a summer-like 24°C.
